Dew Tour

In it's third year, the Winter Dew Tour is back in Breckenridge, CO.  Skiers and snowboarders from around the world, come to Breckenridge to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle.  Breckenridge has stepped up their game with the new 22ft halfpipe (4 feet taller than years past) and a gnarlier slopestyle course consisting of 4 massive jumps and some crazy jibs.  I got a chance to snap some photos at the Dew Tour on one of the only sunny days, so hope you enjoy.

Above:  Kevin Pearce suffered a traumatic brain injury last year in the halfpipe and was put into a coma.  He's been on a long road to recovery, but is doing well.  He was cleared by his doctor to start surfing, which is pretty impressive when you look at the fact that he had to relearn to walk.  His sponsors have been very supportive along with the whole snowboard community.  Oakley made glasses specifically for Kevin after his accident because of his double vision due to the head trauma.  I got the chance to talk to him and he seemed to be in good spirits. Attitude is everything.  He said he doesn't have interest in riding halfpipe or jumps anymore, but does want to slash some powder when he gets cleared to be back on his board.

Hope you enjoyed...

Newport Bermuda Race

Although this event is months old, I found some pictures from it and I thought I'd share.

This past summer I got to witness the start of the Newport Bermuda Race in Newport, RI.  I was lucky enough to get a spot in the "VIP" area, thanks to my girlfriend, Kim's, dad.  The race is a 635 mile race from Newport to Bermuda, hence the name.  There are over 180 boats in the race.  Kim's brother, who is an avid sailor, got to participate in the race, so we were there rooting him on.  The day was filled with good weather, good food, and a lot of "Dark and Stormys" (Goslings Rum and Ginger Beer).  Throughout the day I was able to snap a few pics...Hope you enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Snow Day!

I woke up this morning to a clear sky.  There were some low clouds over the mountains, but no snow.  The first picture (below) was taken at about 7:00am this morning.  The following pictures were taken at about 1:00pm.  As you can see, a storm moved in pretty fast.  We're supposed to get 6"-12" today!

Above:  This morning = no snow.

Thanks for visiting!

A Hike Through Dead Man Land

I've always been intrigued with cemeteries, ghosts, etc.  Beleive what you want, but I like to think it's real.  On the morning of Halloween, I read article in the local newspaper about Breckenridge's Haunted Cemetery, and I was intrigued.  According to the Summit Daily Newspaper,  Breckenridge's first graveyard was at Warriors Mark. But when gold was discovered at the site, the remains of the many people buried there were exhumed and moved to Valley Brook where they did, and still do, share one communal grave.  Having lived in Summit County for almost 7 years, I never visited the cemetery.  So after hiking all day with my sister, we decided to go check it out.  Below are some photos I took during our 1 hour journey.

Above: Grave site located in the tall grass, in the back of Valley Brook Cemetery.

Above:  The cross reads. "The Unknown Dead," kind of freaky.  Look at the face on the gravestone on the bottom right of the picture.  Very Freaky!!!!!

A Trip Out East and Alpacas

Kim and I went to Massachusetts recently to visit her family, and celebrate Kim's birthday.  We were spoiled with all the seafood we could eat!!..Tuna, Lobster, Clam "Chowdah"!...But our weekend did not only consist of birthday celebrations and good eatin'.  On our last day of our short weekend trip, we visited their family friend, who's parents raise Alpacas.
Alpacas look similar to Llamas, but are smaller in size.  They only weigh up to about 175lbs, where as a Llama can weigh up to 500lbs!  One interesting fact I learned on our visit is that Alpacas have no natural defense!  How much would that suck?! (well they do know how to spit, so don't get too close).  Luckily these Alpacas don't live in the wild, instead they're living the good life in South Dartmouth, MA.  Below are a few pics I snapped of these weird, but fluffy creatures...

Above: Sweet Hairdo!

Above: Kim's mom, Vicki, trying get close to the Alapcas.

Above: Curious of my camera.

Above:  Well this isn't an Alpaca...His name is Goliath and he is the newest member of their family!

Hope you enjoyed..See you soon!

Fall Colors In Breckenridge, CO 2010

Here are some photos I took in Breckenridge a couple weeks ago.  The colors of the Aspen's were unbelievable.  It is definately worth a small roadtrip to get over to Breck and witness it first hand.  Although a beautiful sight, these colors don't last very long.  There is about a 2-3 week window, before the leaves start disappearing.

ABOVE:   Off of Illinois Gulch Rd.  An old wooden fence surrounded by Aspens.

ABOVE:  I took this photo wandering around on the Shock Hill Trail.  I almost got taken out by a mountain biker....Shouldn't they have a bell or something?

ABOVE:  Old debri from mining days with Aspens and mountains in the background.

ABOVE:  An old beer can I found while hiking.  I guess PBR has always been a tradition here in Breckenridge!

ABOVE:  Breck Gondola.  The clouds are so low you can't even see the mountains!

ABOVE:  Another shot of Breck's Gondola.  Looking up from the parking lot.

ABOVE:  A picture I snapped on my way home. Leaves Changing Color, Mountains, Snow, Sunset...I love this place!

Well I hope you enjoyed my pictures.  Check back soon for more!
